you order a different yarn than the pattern calls for, not realizing how close a call it's going to be, then you end up being like an EIGHTH of a skein short?

My sister's birthday is tomorrow and I can't finish her present until I get another ball of yarn. From Knitpicks. MAN do I hope they can match the dye lot!

DAMN that sucks. I am too paranoid to cut it that close - I order a ball extra if I'm not sure.
Of course, now I have a lot spare yarn laying around.

Oh, MAN, that bites. I'd rather have a yarn stash (technical term for the extras from projects?)than come up short.
You know though, I was sure I had enough! But it's that funky yarn that has thin strands then fat chunks, and it doesn't use itself up evenly. Grrrrr.
I called Knitpicks--they have a few skeins left from that dye lot and they'll try to get me one. Cross your fingers! While there, I also ordered my yarn and dpns for my first pair of SOCKS! (Oh yeah, and a "how to knit socks" book which is on clearance for less than $12.00).
Yay!
